Crate of Taxidermine by Rowland Ward

SOLD

Highly unusual relic of Rowland Ward’s taxidermy operation, an original crate containing seven unopened cans of Taxidermine, fitted inside a zinc-lined, sturdy wooden dispatch crate with a double hinged lid. Each can bears the product label and stamped no.2 on each lid. The number refers to the type of Taxidermine, no.1 and no.3 were favoured on birds and small mammals. Taxidermine was a preparation invented by Rowland Ward, said to be the non-poisonous preservative which became widely used. Of the three kinds, no.2 is a powder that was applied dry all over the pelts of pachyderms and other such big game.
