Fantastic and unusual pet African Grey Parrot by Rowland Ward Ltd. of London. A premium example of its type, showing a totally un-faded plumage and in wonderful original condition. The bird has been expertly modelled from all angles, the head is turned and inset with glass eyes. Mounted to its minimalist wooden perch and textured sandy groundwork, as if within its cage. Bearing a small ivorine disc label for ‘Rowland Ward 167 Piccadilly London’ and housed within its distinctive all-glass case, exhibiting the brilliance of the taxidermy. This includes all five original glazed panels and khaki coloured tape. The underside is labelled for ‘Rowland Ward Limited, Naturalists, The Jungle, 167 Piccadilly, London W’. This format of label is known to have been used between 1922-1930. Ward’s continued to use this simplistic case design for decades later, testament to their appeal.
